Who can I add as a reference in my sitter application?

Updated October 22, 20261 min read

When you apply to become a pet sitter on Petme, the application form asks for at least two references. References help us get to know you and help pet parents feel confident that their pet will be in good hands.

Who can be a reference?

A reference can be anyone who knows how you are with pets and can vouch for your pet care skills, for example:

  • Clients you've cared for pets for
  • Friends or neighbours whose pets you've looked after
  • Family members

You don't need to share your own clients' details if you'd rather not. Friends or family who know you with animals are just as welcome.

What happens next?

After you submit your application, we contact your references by email. Please let them know in advance, so they look out for our email and check their spam folder.

Your references' replies are only used to review your application. They are not published on your profile, and pet parents can't see them.

I entered a wrong email address for a reference

No problem. Email us at support@petme.social with the correct email address and the name of the reference it belongs to, and we'll update it for you.

I deleted my account and want to apply again

A new account means a new application, so you'll need to add your references again.

If you have any questions about your application, write to us at support@petme.social and we'll be happy to help.
