How do I cancel a booking and receive a refund?

Updated July 30, 20261 min read

Every sitter on Petme chooses a cancellation policy for their services. This gives pet parents clarity upfront about what happens if a booking doesn’t go ahead. Policies balance fairness for both sides - allowing pet parents flexibility while ensuring sitters aren’t left unpaid for last-minute changes.

Here’s how it works if you cancel:

  • Before the cancellation policy period: You receive a full refund of the sitter’s service fees, minus a 10% administrative fee.
  • During the cancellation policy period: You receive a 50% refund of the sitter’s service fees, minus a 10% administrative fee.
  • During the booking (boarding & house sitting only): You receive a 50% refund of the remaining service fees for unused time, minus a 10% administrative fee.

A 10% administrative fee applies to every cancellation and is deducted from the refunded amount to cover processing costs.

For example, if a sitter has a 3-day cancellation policy and you cancel 5 days in advance, you’ll get a full refund of the sitter’s service fees, minus the 10% administrative fee. But if you cancel 2 days before the booking starts, you’ll get 50% of the sitter’s service fees back, minus the 10% administrative fee.

You will see the refund amount, including the administrative fee deduction, at the time of cancellation.
