How is my booking total calculated?

The total you pay for a booking is the price of the service, based on the sitter's own rates. Petme doesn't charge pet parents any platform fees (see Does Petme charge me fees?).

How the service price is calculated

Every sitter sets their own rates. The price depends on the service:

  • Dog walking and drop-in visits: the sitter's rate per 30 minutes, multiplied by the length of each walk or visit. A one-hour walk costs twice as much as a 30-minute walk. If you book several walks or visits, they are added up.
  • Boarding and house sitting: the sitter's rate per night, multiplied by the number of nights.
  • Doggy day care: the sitter's rate per day, multiplied by the number of days.

More than one pet

If you book for more than one pet, the sitter's rate for additional pets is added. If you have a puppy and the sitter accepts puppies, the sitter's puppy rate applies.

Extras

Some sitters offer extras, such as bathing and grooming, or pick-up and drop-off (boarding only). If you choose them, they are added to the total.

Extended care fees

For boarding and house sitting, extended care fees are added when your stay runs past a whole number of days by more than a couple of hours. They are calculated automatically from the extra time:

  • 0 to 2 hours beyond 24 hours: no extra charge.
  • 2 to 8 hours beyond 24 hours: 50% of the sitter's nightly rate is added.
  • More than 8 hours beyond 24 hours: 100% of the sitter's nightly rate is added.

For example, if your stay lasts 28 hours, the 4 extra hours add 50% of the nightly rate. If it lasts 36 hours, the 12 extra hours add 100% of the nightly rate, as for one more night.

Extended care fees are shown in the total when you create or modify the request. If you come home later than planned, the sitter will need a new booking to cover the extra time. If the sitter suggests a custom price, the total changes to that price.

Where to see the price

The total is shown on the request before you book, and again in your booking details. Taxes or promotions can change the total at checkout.
