What is dog walking?

Updated October 18, 20262 min read

Dog walking means that you walk a dog in their neighbourhood.

How a request works

  1. A pet parent sends you a request. The request shows the days and, for each day, one or more walks with a start and an end time. A walk lasts as long as the pet parent has booked. You usually set your rate per 30 minutes, and the price of each walk follows its length.
  2. A chat opens with the pet parent, where you can talk through the details.
  3. You can accept the request (you write a short message to the pet parent), suggest a different price with Provide custom price, or close it.
  4. After you accept, the pet parent can book and pay in the app. The booking is confirmed once the payment goes through.

While the request is still open and not booked, you or the pet parent can change it with Modify request.

What sitters usually do

Sitters follow the pet's usual schedule, as instructed by the pet parent. Pets have their routines and, unlike people, can't easily adapt to a different situation. That is why it is important to clear everything up before you accept a request.

Check the pet's details

Open the booking request to see the pet's details: the breed, size and age, and any instructions the pet parent has filled in. Read them carefully before you decide.

Before you accept a request

Please only accept a request when you have all the details, you are sure you can follow the pet's routine and you are comfortable with the pet parent's requirements. Use the chat to ask about anything that isn't in the pet's profile, for example:

  • the days and times of the walks
  • the dog's energy level, size and behaviour with other dogs
  • how you will pick up and return the dog, and where the lead and bags are
  • that you can keep to the schedule for every walk of the booking

If you change your mind

  • Accepted, but not booked yet: you can still close the request without any penalty.
  • Booked and paid: if you cancel, the pet parent receives a refund minus an administrative fee, so they will not get the full amount back. It can also affect your reliability score. Please cancel only in exceptional circumstances, when nothing else can be done.
